Moncarapacho
Moncarapacho is an inland town and the oldest parish in the municipality of Olhão. It is an agricultural region rather than touristic.
In the town centre, you will find Praça da República, local cafés and restaurants with terraces to enjoy an outside meal in the sunny weather and the quietness of daily life in the countryside. Churches and historic buildings beautifully maintained give Moncarapacho it’s picturesque feel, the monthly market, Parish Museum and Moorish heritage of the town make it unique. Nearby, the Cerro de São Miguel, at 411m altitude, offers a great view over the Ria Formosa, with great trails for hiking or biking.
A Portuguese description of Moncarapacho will likely include the word “calm” i.e. take it easy. Life as a different rhythm around here…
The closest beach is in Fuseta, only 6km south of Moncarapacho, a charming fishermen’s village with access to a sandy beach, where you can go SUP or kitesurfing or discover the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve with its birds and salt pans.
Other nearby options on the coast include Tavira to the east (16km) and Olhão to the west (10km).
I could not refrain from commenting. Exceptionally well written. Margarethe Benn Tala
